A Quick Look Inside InsurePro August 2026
Welcome to InsurePro's August updates: a quick read covering the latest market dynamics, where we have been showing up, and what we have been building for our clients and partners.

1. California's 6.6% workers' comp rate hike, what it means for the market
California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara approved a 6.6% workers' comp rate hike effective September 1, 2026, setting the advisory pure premium rate at $1.65 per $100 of payroll. The WCIRB had recommended a 10.4% increase; the Commissioner approved the more conservative figure. For carriers, MGAs, and PEOs managing California exposure, rising costs and increasing scrutiny mean disciplined underwriting and accurate risk assessment matter more than ever.

2. For MGAs, analytics is no longer a competitive advantage: it is the cost of entry
According to Amwins' 2026 MGA Marketplace Update, technology investment is no longer viewed as a competitive advantage. It is the cost of entry. Carriers and capital providers now expect timely data and clear visibility into portfolios. MGAs with strong analytics and repeatable processes find it easier to secure capacity. Those without facing growing pressure from rising technology and compliance costs.
The message is clear; MGAs that cannot demonstrate real-time portfolio visibility and data governance are already at a disadvantage in capacity conversations. The question is no longer whether to invest in analytics. It is how quickly you can operationalize it.

3. PEO workers' comp costs are rising and clients are feeling it
From 2021 to 2023, the overall cost of workers' comp claims rose between 2% and 14% annually across 18 states. Medical inflation shows no signs of slowing, putting pressure on PEOs to demonstrate proactive risk management to clients who are increasingly cost-sensitive. The PEOs managing this best are the ones with real-time visibility into claims trends and payroll exposure, not waiting for the year-end audit to tell them what happened.
